Family
From left to right: Lawrence Bertrand (my Godfather holding my niece Leisa), Josephine Bertrand (my Godmother holding me), my father Edgar Hubley, and my mom Ruth Hubley in the front yard of my family home.
I live in my family home on Wollaston Hill with my wife, Kathryn, where we raised our daughter, Victoria, and our son, Nathan. A proud product of Quincy Public Schools, I attended Wollaston Elementary School, Central Middle School, and North Quincy High School (Class of 1989).
I am the adopted son of the late Edgar and Ruth Hubley, who both passed away in 2000. They served as foster parents for over 30 years through the New England Home for Little Wanderers, providing many children of all backgrounds with a safe and caring home during their families’ times of need. I was fortunate to be placed into their care at an early age and later adopted.
As our children attended college, my wife and I quickly learned we were not suited to being empty-nesters. Following in my parents’ footsteps, we became foster parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, opening our home to children in need. Building on this commitment, we more recently served as host parents for international students from Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, and Costa Rica.
Finding My Birthfamily
In 1994, after six years of searching, I located my birth mother and siblings, connecting with a large extended family here in the US. Similarly, in 2021, after 31 years of searching, I found my birth father, siblings, and a large extended family in England. The experience of connecting with my birth family has been impactful on me and my family. I was recently asked to share this experience in a podcast interview. You can hear more about the process and perspectives of my search in an episode of the “Endings” podcast here. You can also find it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
